Built in 1962, this iconic cooperative building was conceived with an extraordinary architectural ambition—to harmonize urban living with nature’s breathtaking beauty. Designed by renowned architects Philip Birnbaum and Ralph Leff, the structure was subtly angled, a masterstroke ensuring that every single apartment enjoys an unobstructed view of the river’s shimmering expanse.
Philip Birnbaum, a prolific architect responsible for approximately 300 buildings, was celebrated for his efficient designs that maximized living space with virtually no wasted floor area. His most notable projects include Manhattan landmarks such as 1 Lincoln Plaza, Hotel Parker Meridien, and Trump Plaza. Beyond Manhattan, Birnbaum’s work extended to Riverdale and Queens, where he designed several residential buildings, as well as South Florida, where he contributed to the design of the Doral Beach Hotel and Doral Country Club.
